Cranial Nerves:
Anatomy, Pathology, Imaging |
Medical Science Books .com Medical book review: Cranial Nerves: Anatomy, Pathology, Imaging fills a traditional void in the clinical neuroscience literature. Few titles have devoted complete coverage to the cranial nerves and none of these have included such an array of CT and MRI images of the brain. The text is organized into discrete chapters, each dedicated to one of the 12 cranial nerves, complete with clinical case studies and imaging examples, making it an absolutely essential reference for the Neurology and Neuroradiology boards. This same feature also makes the text valuable to medical students learning to identify and correlate the functions of the cranial nerves for the first time, especially since the current trend in medical education includes early exposure to imaging modalities. Although plentiful, imaging photos do not take away from the inclusion of high quality diagrams representing the neuroanatomical relationships between the cranial nerves and surrounding brain structures. Particularly noteworthy is Appendix A which succinctly covers the complex realm of brainstem anatomy and function. Also important to the pedagogical goals of the book are imaging and clinical pearls set apart from the main text which aid the reader in “connecting the dots” between the normal and pathological condition. Overall, Cranial Nerves: Anatomy, Pathology is a unique, and thus important, addition to the Neurological as well as medical education literature. From the Publisher: Highlights: This book is an indispensable reference for practicing physicians and trainees in neurosurgery, neurology, neuroradiology, radiology, and otolaryngology-head and neck surgery. It will also serve as a valuable resource for students seeking to gain a solid understanding of the anatomy, function, and pathology of the cranial nerves.
